About David Lee
I am originally from Seattle, USA. Photography is a serious hobby for me. There is nothing I enjoy more than getting out and using my camera. I had extensive film SLR training and worked as an assistant for multiple professional photographers until around 1991. After a long break from real photography, in early 2007 I purchased my first Digital SLR camera. I have been out shooting almost every week since.
Also be sure to see my attempt to maintain “a photo a day” blog. A full archive of my less crappy images can be seen in my galleries when I get around to updating them!

Hi Dave, I found your site through Google when I was looking up some photography sites and I really like your stuff. I moved to Tokyo in 2007 and I got into photography at the same time so it’s really interesting and eye-opening to see what you’re photographing. To be honest sometimes I get a bit down and I think there’s nothing interesting but then I see a photo on your site that picks me back up again.
One thing I’m wondering is what gear you usually use and also if you’d have any tips for someone who’s pretty new to photography (especially in Japan). Are there any photography groups in the area or online that you would suggest?
Hey Andrew. Thanks for commenting. Gear really does not matter too much. I like my 5D Mark II and fast lenses, but in reality my images were just as good or (or bad) with my previous cameras. The one thing the 5D II gives me is the ability to shoot hand held in low light more, other than that, all cameras look the same to me.
Japan has endless opportunities to shoot urban, nature, and traditional cultural scenes. My advice is to get out of Tokyo as much as possible on the weekends and days off. Take a train or a bus somewhere and just figure it out as you go along. The small towns in the countryside provide great scenery.

So Great…
I mean, I’m new in photo. I had Canon EOS 1000D…but now it is broken and can you help me to choose new camera?
I mean, you’re the professional and your point of view is more important then any site opinion
Thank You for great photos
Hello back Dave,
Thanks for your comments on my images. You’ve got some really beautiful work here, and I do see what you mean about some similarities. I’ll have to check back again.
Hello Dave,
Beautiful, BEAUTIFUL work! I found you through Google, too, and felt as though I had stumbled on a little window into heaven! I’m not a photographer, but I am an artist and my subjects are wildlife and rural scenes. I never COPY other people’s photos, but I look for inspiration in them, and yours are truly inspiring. I am not asking for permission to use any of your photos as artist’s references. I am just an old retired lady looking for real beauty out there in the world, and you certainly provide it with your exceptional photographic images. Thank you so much for making them available for all of us out here to look at and be inspired by!
Many blessings,
Susie Lee
